I was fortunate to be in community this past week with so many other creative community fellows talking and learning about all the intricacies and simplicities of doing work that is driven by our deep commitments. One of the experiences that came up was that many of us were working multiple jobs–usually one to pay the bills and one more related to our projects. I wonder when to make a leap of faith–to put all my efforts into the project (or not?) so it will grow. It can be difficult and tasking to keep up with multiple jobs but I still can’t live on my project’s funding.
This week my youth poetry slam organization made movement towards renting our own space after 5 years of being in operation. It looks like a great deal and the space is right in the barrio I live in! We are looking forward to the possibilities this will bring us. At the same time, I was offered a promotion at my other job which means more work and less time to lend to the poetry organization. It’s only for a year—so I am sitting here wishing I could peep into a crystal ball and get some answers. In the end, a year doesn’t seem that long to save up and fund my dreams. On the other hand, I’ve created amazing things when I find the courage to leap.
I’m off to buy a lottery ticket.
Much Love,
Sarah Gonzales
